Saigon - Hostel

Vietnam Backpacker Hostels - Saigon is VBH’s awesome, urban hostel located in the heart of Ho Chi Minh City. Overlooking a lush and lively park, the hostel is conveniently located just minutes from the hustle and bustle of famous Bui Vien Street and Ben Thanh Market. Boasting clean, bright and open 8-12 bed dorms and en-suite, city view privates, the VBH – Saigon team offers friendly, full service travel planning, FREE airport pickup from the international terminal and the cheapest bus tickets in town. Our 9th floor rooftop bar can be visited day and night by elevator, and is the premier party spot in town.

The buzzing metropolis of Saigon is known around the world for its rich history, culture, cuisine and non-stop day to day life! When arriving in Saigon you'll be greeted with impressive skyscrapers and bustling streets full of energy and excitement. District 1 is the main French colonial district of the City and is home to backpacker hostels, hotels and an endless choice of amazing bars and restaurants. When in district 1, a trip to the main French colonial sights is a must! The most famous including the vibrant Ben Thanh market, the impressive city hall and the beautiful Notre Dame Cathedral Replica.

Around these areas you will have no issue finding great local street food! Saigonese cuisine offers flavours from all corners of the country and even draws inspiration from Cambodian and Thai cuisine. District 5 is home to Chinatown.  Settlers from China have been living in this district for nearly 300 years, and this part of town offers amazing Chinese food, beautiful Chinese architecture and temples to explore. If you head all the way over to the other side of district 1 and head into the more Japanese style town boasting amazing international cuisine restaurants and brilliant local breweries. Saigon offers a massive amount of locally run craft beer breweries combining amazing beer and local flavours together in exciting ways.

All around the City you can find historic Vietnam War sites, including secret underground weapons and ammunition bunkers, ex battle fields, and on the outskirts of town, underground tunnel systems. These are known as the Cu Chi tunnels and are always worth checking out when in Saigon. We recommend using grab taxis or bikes as they are usually the easiest way to navigate around the city and are often the cheapest method. If you are intending on heading a bit further out of the city to explore the rural areas around the City, the famous Mekong Delta is always worth a visit. This area is filled with beautiful river lands and jungle and is a great change up from the hustle and bustle of Saigon for a day or two.

Getting There

So you’ve finally arrived in Ho Chi Minh City, now what? Getting to our hostel of course!

Private Pickup:

No need to get wound up! You have many options available to you; we will happily help you arrange a private taxi pick up, which will bring you directly to our doorstep! This option will cost you around 15$ for a 4 seater car, 17$ for a 7 seater, or if you are arriving in mass amounts, a Mini Van will cost around 30$ and is all conveniently organised online through our website.

By Bus:

Option 2 is to do what locals do, jump on bus number 109. This bus runs every 20-30 minutes and will cost you less than a dollar and will take you in to the very heart of the city. The bus stops a mere 2 minutes walk from the hostel. Stretch those legs and meet us there!

By Grab:

Option 3 is to make use of Vietnam’s equivalent to Uber, Grab. Simply download the Grab app before you arrive and enter your details. . A Grab car will cost you between 4$ - 9$ depending on the time of day and traffic. To be noted,  if you choose to get a Grab without using the app, be prepared to put your bartering skills to use or else you stand a chance of being overcharged by the driver. Make sure you get in to the right car!

By Taxi:

Option 4 is to get a local taxi, however we do not recommend this as they are notorious for overcharging tourists!

I have travelled Vietnam before and this is my second time here at the Saigon location, this hostel chain really is a well run machine, all of the staff work hard to make you feel welcome and get you involved. As a solo traveller myself I sometimes find it difficult to intergrate with groups but this was never an issue at this hostel. I only came over on a free 2 week visa and the guys at the travel desk did a great job to help me plan the rest of my holiday! I'll be back for sure :D

Great place to meet people, awesome roof top bar with a view all over Saigon that has nightly events to get everybody involved. A great travel desk that can arrange anything for you all the way throughout Vietnam. Made even better by all of the amazing staff!!
