Day 1


Depart the hustle and bustle of Hanoi in the morning and head for the unspoiled splendor of Mai Chau Valley. Take in the panoramic views before arriving to your authentic homestay and feasting on a lunch with your new family.

After relaxing, you spend the afternoon cycling through lush rice paddies and limestone mountains on a guided tour. This time will bring you a chance to explore the humble local culture of the nearby villages. You visit a traditional brocade weaving workshop and learn about textile production in Mai Chau. Take this opportunity to attend a training lesson of dyeing natural fabrics with the workers at the textile factory.

A fresh and cool steam is a reward after an afternoon of bicycling.

Then you will ride back to the homestay for a rest and enjoy your BBQ night at the front yard of the homestay.

Day 2


Enjoy breakfast, before setting out on a quintessential "When in Vietnam" motorbike ride (pillion) to round out your final day in the rural countryside.

Visit a nearby fresh water lake and cool off with a swim before returning to your homestay.

Refuel with lunch, and freshen up before heading back to Hanoi, arriving just in time for our nightly activities and/or onward travel. Wake up and enjoy breakfast before getting on an epic motorbike ride through the surrounding local villages to a stunning natural waterfall.

Cool off with a swim in the big hidden waterfall surrounded by the rice paddies before jumping on a bike to get back to the homestay.

Get on a bike to visit a natural stream, in summer you can enjoy the cool swimming spots nd in winter you will relax in the natural hot springs, a seasonal gift from nature.

Arrive back to the homestay for a rest and refuel with lunch, then get on the bus back to Hanoi at 12:30pm.

You will arrive in Hanoi just in time for an awesome night out in Hanoi

Day 0

  • Experience Thai and H’mong culture and traditions.
  • Homestay experience.
  • Lesson of dyeing natural fabrics.

  • Hiking in less touristy places.
  • Swimming in a hidden waterfall (summer) or in a hot spring (winter).

In circumstances beyond the control of Vietnam Backpacker Hostels and the associated tour operators, such as weather conditions, mechanical failure, and/or restrictions placed by the National Park Authorities, we reserve the right to alter the route or itinerary of any of our tours. No refunds will be given in these circumstances, or in the event of any delay, curtailment or alteration of the trip. We cannot guarantee pick-up and drop-off times and are not liable for passenger failure to connect with other services or any associated costs incurred.


Whilst we make every effort to safeguard our clients and their belongings, we cannot be held responsible for personal injury or loss due to events beyond our control. We also cannot be held liable for operations conducted by local contracted service providers.


Passengers should note that adventure travel involves higher than normal risk.

Travel Insurance

Travel Insurance is NOT included. We strongly recommend that passengers have their own travel insurance against illness, injury, loss/damage to personal belongings and not being able to travel on confirmed departure dates.

The Essentials

Passport, swim-stuff, towel, sunscreen, toiletries, raincoat, warm clothes for the cooler months (NovMarch), mosquito repellent, camera, flashlight, a healthy appetite and a good attitude!

How much luggage can I take?

Due to limited vehicle space and the nature of island accommodation, we ask that you limit yourself to a maximum of 15 kgs in a backpack or overnight bag.

Where do I meet the trip?

The trip departs from our Downtown Hostel at 9 Ma May Street, Hanoi at 7am, so please be downstairs ready at 6:30am. If you're staying at our Original Hostel, please be downstairs and ready by 6:15am.

Can I bring my own drinks?

No. There is a fully licensed and stocked bar on the island. While we want everyone to have a blast, your safety is our main concern. This ensures responsible drinking practices with measured amounts of real, quality alcohol. Please read the waiver you will sign upon departure carefully and understand that we reserve the right to confiscate any contraband found and remove any individual from the island without refund that is putting others or themselves at risk.

What do I eat?

You will be eating a Vietnamese buffet prepared on the island by our local cooks. If you are vegetarian, have food allergies or do not eat seafood we can cater to you. If you have very specific dietary needs, please discuss this at the time of booking.

How fit do I have to be?

Our trips are active, so a reasonable level of fitness is needed. If you have any doubts about your suitability for our trips, please check with our Travel Desk before making a booking.

NOTE: Activities vary in duration and grade depending on the availability.

Online Bookings

All online bookings need to be confirmed and paid for in full 24 hours in advance. If not, Vietnam Backpacker Hostels will regard it as nonattendance. You will not be able to join the tour and will NOT be refunded.

Cancellation Policy Fees

Fees will be charged in event of booking cancellations

  • 48 Hours - 30 Days: 25% of booking cost
  • 24 Hours - 48 Hours: 50% of booking cost
  • Within 24 Hours or no shows: 100% of booking cost
